Avatar has been free-hosting this website since 2008, saving the Society money which is now used for conservation work on the island. Based in Christchurch, Avatar are specialists in website design, marketing and search engine optimisation.

Major sponsor since 1998. Their support has given the revegetation programme real momentum and got the island to where it is today. Golden Bay Cement specialise in making top quality Portland cement and are a major supplier to industry and the retail trade in New Zealand.

Bank of New Zealand Save the Kiwi Trust
Sponsors of kiwi predator control work on the island. The site also has a very good teachers section on kiwi (click here).

New Zealand National Parks and Conservation Foundation
The Foundation has provided a grant for signage on the island. This Department of Conservation page makes reference to helping Limestone Island.

Whangarei District Council
WDC owns the island as a Scenic Reserve and contributes much to its maintenance and ongoing development

Nortland Regional Council
NRC has contributed to island restoration through grants from its Environment Fund

Department of Conservation
Staff in Whangarei, and those involved at national level, are very supportive of the environmental work carried out on the island, especially the kiwi work, species introduction and argentine ant control.

Project Crimson
Project Crimson has kindly provided pohutukawa for restoration of the coastal forest on the island.

Youth Hostel Association
The YHA has donated planting spades and trees and Whangarei Hostel guests regularly help on the island.

Landcare Trust
Funded by Transpower. Grants made to landcare groups around the country. Changes being made to structure/administration late 2008.

Royal Forest and Bird Protection Society of NZ
The Society's mission is to preserve and protect the native plants and animals and natural features of New Zealand.

Landcare Research
Includes the Landcare Research plant species selector (part of the green toolbox), and also has databases and collections (which has link to plant selector above)

QE II National Trust
QEII helps landowners to protect significant natural and cultural features on their land through open space covenants.

Ministry for the Environment
Information on issues that affect the environment, environmental laws and treaties and the state of the environment along with information on what you can do for the environment.

New Zealand Plant Conservation Network
This website provides information about native plants and their conservation in New Zealand. The main focus for the network is the nationally threatened plants and plant communities that require conservation management for their continued survival.

Historic Places Trust
The New Zealand Historic Places Trust's activities relate to the recognition, protection and promotion of New Zealand's historic and cultural heritage.

Kiwi Foundation of NZ
Northland based, assisting landowners and community groups to protect their kiwi through advocacy, and designing, implementing and supporting integrated pest control on their land.

Tiritiri Matangi
A 220-hectare island off Whangaparoa peninsula, Tiritiri Matangi is a scientific reserve, with outstanding wildlife, conservation, scientific, recreational and historical values.

Te Oho Mai Puketi – Puketi Forest Trust
Puketi is an ancient kauri forest in central Northland. Formed in 2003, the Trust is a community effort to restore Puketi to a complete living forest through integrated pest control and reintroduction of locally extinct native wildlife.

Waipoua Forest Trust
A bicultural partnership between conservationists and Te Iwi O Te Roroa, the vision of the Trust is to protect, restore, interpret and promote the internationally significant natural heritage at Waipoua.

Museum & Kiwi House
Located at Maunu, Whangarei where it houses many natural collections and historic artefacts as well as promoting conservation and education of the natural environment.

Pub Charity
Pub Charity is a charitable trust that makes donations to community groups and organisations, both locally and nationally, throughout New Zealand. Pub Charity have been a big help to the restoration work on the island.

Bream Head Trust
Situated at the entrance to Whangarei Harbour. A partnership between Iwi, the Community, the Whangarei District Council, and the Department of Conservation with aims to restore the ecology of the reserve, preserve its historical and archaeological features and enhance it's recreational and educational potential.

Great Barrier Island Charitable Trust
Situated in the Hauraki Gulf, the Trust's vision is to protect native species through the eradication of rats and feral cats, to re-introduce species lost to the island, and to work towards building an ecology based economic framework for Great Barrier Island.

Te Ara - the Encyclopedia of New Zealand
When complete in 2013, the online encyclopedia will be a comprehensive guide to the country's peoples, natural environment, history, culture, economy, institutions and society. This link is to the section on Whangarei City and environs.

Guardians of the Bay of Islands
Working with landowners, iwi, authorities and the community, the Guardians vision is restore native wildlife habitats by removing pest species and reintroduce appropriate animal and plant species to the islands.
